GERALD McDERMOTT

During the spring of 2005, students of the Alchemy Program participated in a workshop with Gerald McDermott, Caldecott Medal Winner, Filmmaker, Graphic Artist, and author of numerous illustrated books including Arrow to the Sun: A Pueblo Indian Tale; Anasi the Spider: A Tale from the Ashanti; The Stonecutter: A Japanese Folktale; Zomo the Rabbit: A Trickster Tale from West Africa; Papagayo the Mischief Maker; etc.

  MICHAEL MEADE

During the fall of 2005, Michael Meade conducted a workshop for the youth of Alchemy, Inc. Michael Meade has studied myth, anthropology, history of religion, and cross-cultural rituals for over 35 years. He is the author of Men and the Water of Life: Initiation and the Tempering of Men; editor, with James Hillman and Robert Bly, of Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart; and editor of Crossroads: A Quest for Contemporary Rites of Passage. Meade is Founder/Director of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a network of artists, teachers and activists that fosters community healing and development efforts.
